I look around and I notice that most cars do. I have to admit that my face feels the same way. As an esthetician I know just how to take care of it. Logic says its time to exfoliate. But I know if I just increase exfoliation, removing that layer of protection leaves me susceptible to dehydration from the harsh winds. If I just layer on the thick moisturizer that sticky, waxy feeling gets worse. And then the breakouts and bumpies get worse.

The answer is balance. When approaching these challenges in a facial treatment, I like to spend the first portion creating a big soupy, scrubby mess. It lets the skin balance in terms of moisture level, provides oil to loosen impacted pores, lifts dead skin cells so I can catch the edge and gently urge those flakes off the face! When I finally rinse it off, I'm left with a soft even surface to work with, as opposed to a hard polished surface that is closed to further nourishment.

Then I go into nurture mode. The skin tells me what it wants. It may even want more cleansing. Whatever it wants, it gets. Usually it wants a nice nurturing massage. The muscles and connective tissues usually call out for a little attention here too. Ears also call out for a little attention. Who knew that those lobes could get so tense!

The last portion is about fortification. I don't want to send this sweet relaxed face back out into the world, but it is our destiny. We can't hide in the facial room forever! Again, the skin lets me know what kind of help it needs. Maybe some clay, maybe honey, aloe, oatmeal, cranberry. Chocolate, soy, lavender? Whatever it craves, it gets!! Each of these generous gifts from outside brings a special quality to the skin in a finishing mask. We aim for luminosity, satin texture, and even tone.

For quick facial detailing Balancing Boost scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='eyebrows'/>

Comparison of hair removal methods

Thank you to hairfacts.com!

At Brows in Denver, Colorado we offer eyebrow threading, beauty threading, eye brow waxing, eyebrow tweezing, trimming eyebrows, and razor thinning of eyebrows.
We can do most of the same services for facial hair.
Waxing and beauty threading are the best methods for body hair removal.

THREADING(khite)
--------------------------
Basic facts
--
Beauty threading is an ancient method of hair removal that is still used in parts of the Middle and Far East.
Called khite in Arabic and fatlah in Egyptian, it's a less common method in the West for removing hair at the root, used primarily on facial hair and eyebrows.
Rows of stray hairs are plucked out with twists of cotton thread.

Description:
--
Thin, twisted cotton threads are rolled over untidy hairlines, lip, chin, brows plucking the unwanted hair.
Practitioners use a pure cotton thread.
They generally twist the hair and threading pulls out a whole row of hair, as opposed to tweezing where only one single hair is pulled out.
It is pulled out from the follicle.

Advantages:
--
Inexpensive, fast, neat.
Considered less painful than waxing or tweezing for many.
Less likely to cause breakout or ingrown hairs than waxing.
Good for facial hair and brow threading.
Like tweezing and waxing, results can last up to two to six weeks.
Doesn't leave the skin as red and "bald" as waxing.
Faster than tweezing.
Stretches the skin less than waxing, and no heat.
Can be used on Retin-A and Accutane users.

Disadvantages:
--
Side effects can include folliculitis, a bacterial infection in the hair follicles, skin reddening or puffiness, and changes in skin pigment.
Some find it more painful than waxing or tweezing.
Less precise than tweezing for shaping eyebrows.
Can be painful and cause itching afterwards.

=============================================
TWEEZING
---------------

Description:
--
Metal forceps used manually to pull hairs out by the root, one at a time.

Advantages:
--
Inexpensive, neat.
Considered less painful than waxing for some, especially on sensitive skin.
Less likely to cause breakout or ingrown hairs than waxing.
Good for facial hair.
Like beauty threading and waxing, results can last up to two to six weeks.
Doesn't leave the skin as red and "bald" as waxing.
More precise than threading.
Stretches the skin less than waxing, and no heat.
Can be used on Retin-A and Accutane users.

Disadvantages:
--
Can be painful.
Difficult for large areas.
May cause ingrown hairs.
May cause pitting or scarring.
Can cause little scratches or nicks on the skin.
Takes longer than waxing or threading.
=============================================================================
WAXING and SUGARING
------------

Basic facts
--
Can be used on face and body.
Quickly establishes an eyebrow arch.

Description
--
An ancient method,
Heated wax is applied to the skin, and a strip of cloth or paper is pressed into the preparation.
The strip is then quickly pulled away, taking hairs with it.
Some waxes, called hard wax, cools to a solid at room temperature and doesn't require a strip to pull it off.
Hard wax is more gentle on the skin.

Advantages
--
Inexpensive, fast.
Faster than tweezing or threading.
Considered less painful than threading or tweezing for many.
Good for facial hair and body hair.
Grabs more of the little "baby hairs" then tweezing or threading usually do.
Good for bushy eyebrows.
Like threading and tweezing, results can last up to two to six weeks.

Disadvantages
--
Heat and the pulling can leave skin red and puffy for many people.
Can not be used on Retin-A and Accutane users, or people with sensitive skin "I don't know how to choose a color for my skin tone."

Michelle and David Dinsmore, owners of Brows on Upper 15th and pros when it comes to makeup, eyebrow grooming and skin care, say they have many clients like Gonzales. As women age and their skin changes and loses suppleness, they don't know how to change their makeup routine, Michelle Dinsmore says.

Gonzales' first visit to Brows was for a balancing boost facial to cleanse, lightly exfoliate and hydrate the skin. She also had her brows tweezed and shaped.

Two days later, with daughter Monique in tow, Gonzales returned to Brows for the makeup-bag makeover. Her sparse collection of cosmetics, in a plastic bag, included a bottle of foundation, some concealer, bronzer, eye shadow and an eyeliner pencil. No lipstick.

"You don't need a lot of makeup because you've got strong hair color, dark eyes and lashes, and you have good color in your lips," Dinsmore assured her.

The makeup artist gave Gonzales a mirror and asked her to watch as she worked, applying products to one side of her face and then having the client repeat the step.

Dinsmore started with eye cream to soften the area and help makeup better adhere to the skin. She used brushes to apply concealer and foundation, and a fine-tipped brush to apply eyeliner. She stroked on several colors of eye shadows and had Gonzales curl her lashes before applying mascara. Bronzer, lip pencil and lip gel followed.

She says the response from her husband, Richard, and family members has been positive. "It made me decide I need to take more care of myself," Gonzales says. "I just haven't put the time in."

The makeovers have helped mom and daughter stick to their fitness goals, Gonzales says.

"To get the makeup and lesson was the icing on the cake for me," she says.

Staff writer Suzanne S. Overdo it with the tweezers, and you'll have Grandma's penciled-in look for months. Then again, you can't very well be sporting that Brooke-Sheilds-almost-unibrow hairiness, either. And trusting your arches to a new, wax-weilding stylist is a scary moment of truth. No one wants to be stuck with that alarmed, overdone expression for weeks.

So what's a well-groomed gal to do? Turn to the talented folks at Brows on Upper 15th, where brow shaping is the specialty of the house... they'll evaluate your face, brows, and skin while they're at it. You can experiment with looks using the latest fall colors, and if you like what you see, you can decide to book a facial, brow waxing, makeup or massage appointment.

Which Facial?
ONLINE APPOINTMENT BOOKING

click on "Brows Online Booking" link to the right

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_tpLUi4N7FkU/Rui6elFxoBI/AAAAAAAAAB0/ckZ5sIbIfBk/s400/Shahram+Sharif-apple.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5109538811767005202" />

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_tpLUi4N7FkU/Rui77lFxoCI/AAAAAAAAAB8/ufULjvXU_Aw/s400/RedsbySLEmerick.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5109540409494839330" />
Colorado Climate Cure
(90 min)
90 minutes of treatment
FOCUS: enough time for extra masks to cure what ails you, LOTS of hydration and massage. BROW GEL is your friend. it will tame those hairs, and our new formulas aren't stiff or sticky.

SEE THROUGH BROWS: please don't be scared of shaping. it is hard to believe, but when we define the shape by removing the superfluous hairs your brows will look stronger. BROW TINT is a tinted wax you can apply to the hairs to make them show up without the "painted on" look. it comes in a little mascara wand that is easy to use. another option is to use the bristles of a stiff BROW BRUSH to comb a little BROW POWDER in. you can use the narrow edge of a smaller BROW BRUSH to give ultra-definition if desired. BROW GEL applied before the powder adds a little substance and luster to baby fine hairs....

BARE SPOTS OR SCARS: almost all people seem to experience a little brow bald spot at one time or another. hormones, stress, medication and more can cause hair to fall out. i've seen a lot of "swing-set" scars from taking a swing to the browbone. it saves your eye, but messes with dreams of super-model eyebrows. regardless of the cause, it is simple to camouflaged those spots. if the spot is inside the brow shape, our WATERPROOF EYEBROW PENCIL will be easy-cheesy. it doesn't smudge, always stays sharp, no problem. if the spot cuts into the perimeter of the brow, BROW POWDER is generally the better choice. using a narrow edge of a small or soft BROW BRUSH, build color into the outline of the brow extending past the bare spot. if it is hard to build up enough color, apply PENCIL to simulate the substance of hair, then apply BROW POWDER over entire brow and pencil to blend it to a uniform appearance.

TOO THIN OR AWKWARD SHAPED: regular shapings can keep your brows looking good while they grow into their shape. i can use optical illusions to make a brow look longer, thicker, more arched, etc...the option that usually works best for bringing a more elegant shape is the 3CUSTOM COLOR BROW POWDER #6. it may be too dark for you, but it allows us to build a nice shape with the BROW BRUSH. used wet it won't budge. we will teach you how to apply your color to smooth out your shape. you may want a BROW STENCIL to help you learn where the arch belongs. i like to pick the stencil for each client individually because of face shape, brow length, etc...

Dealing with Hair Loss:
Osmotics Nutrilash
Lash and Brow Enhancer
28 applicators $38.00

Your seceret for fuller, thicker, lashes and brows. Uniquely designed for the eye area, this all-natural formula is ocular tested, completely safe, and non-irritating. You will love the versatility and convenience of using one product for both lashes and/brows.
